Intranet and Potral Success Criteria
Identifying clear and measurable criteria that can be used to evaluate the success of the intranet is important not only for managing the solution, but also for communicating the success to executive stakeholders and other parties. These criteria are commonly a combination of empirical results derived through quantitative and qualitative assessments. Criteria are different for every organisation but commonly form part of 4 key groups:
Usage and Adoption The benefit of the intranet grows exponentially as the number and frequency of people using it increases.
Return on Investment
Various Return on Investment (ROI) calculations are commonly used to evaluate the success of the intranet. Care must be taken though to avoid in-depth and complex analysis and instead rather focus on key metrics and indicators that can be used for the calculations.
Productivity
Productivity improvements are one of the key benefits that intranets can provide. Calculating productivity improvements though can be challenging. Focusing on processes for which the start, completion, steps and tasks can be explicitly defined simplifies the calculations.
Stakeholder Satisfaction
The perception that various user groups have of the intranet is often the most critical element in adoption and usage, and thus ultimately the success of the intranet.
